Introducing this month's Small Business Spotlight, Genavee from Paperie Planning. We have been following Paperie Planning for as long as we can remember! Tell us more about you and what inspired you to start your business!
My daughter is my main inspiration for starting my business. After having her and going through a time of financial hardship, I knew I had to make some changes in order to provide the best for my family. To me that meant starting off with a budget. I wanted to find a way to not only budget regularly but enjoy it at the same time. That’s when I came across the budget & planner community and saw that there was a way to budget & plan with stickers. It was interesting to me at first, but once I gave it a chance I found it to be very motivating, helping me to reach my goals and be more consistent. At this time in my life, my maternity leave was also ending and it was time for me to “return” back to work. Sadly my job title was removed entirely, therefore, it was time for me to search for a new job. While I was in the process of looking for a new job I knew my dream was to find a way to work from home. Prior to this time, I had spent years researching of ways to work from home, such as (Amazon FBA, online tutoring, starting a mommy youtube channel, etc.) but it wasn’t until I started budgeting & planning that I found my passion and saw this as an opportunity to work from home while doing what I love at the same time. Like many in this community, stationery has always held a special place in my life. Therefore, making this as part of my job was a dream come true and a risk worth taking. That is where my inspiration for Paperie Planning came from and I have to say, I am so glad and blessed to have come across this awesome community that is full of genuine & inspiring individuals. It truly has become a big part of my life and I am so thankful to everyone!
Where did the name of your business come from?
When thinking of names for my business I knew that I wanted something catchy & even “luxe” while keeping it short at the same time. “PAPERIE” was that for me. Unfortunately, Paperie alone was not available so I thought, “Well, since I'm going to be budget and daily planning, why not just put Paperie”, (which in my head sounds like “paper”) and planning together. That is Where Paperie Planning came from.
What makes you unique + different from other shops?
When I first came into this community there weren't too many neutral options as far as stickers went. I am not one to gravitate towards bright & bold colors so I was having a hard time finding stickers that I would actually use on a daily basis so I decided to offer softer, neutral, and everyday colors.
What planner are you currently using?
Currently, I have two planners that I use. An A5 Moterm White Lichi but recently I have been gravitating a lot more towards my Louis Vuitton PM agenda because of how easy it is to carry around and how luxe it feels. It keeps me inspired & motivated to be more consistent with my planning. It’s very tiny, but that’s where my custom scripts come in handy. Little tip, you can find some really good, pre-owned planners in this planner community which is amazing!
What is your favorite product in your shop?
That’s a hard question, but If I had to choose 1, I would say my custom scripts since they are the ones I find myself using the most. My writing is not the best, so these custom scripts are a lifesaver! Plus, they fit so nicely in my little pocket planner as mentioned before.
What is a must have on your desk?
Let’s just say that I could remove everything off my desk and as long as I have my Macbook with me I can do it all. Work, plan, watch youtube, listen to music, chat with friends, etc. So that would be a must have item to have on my desk.
